Starting Your Political Campaign with Google Contacts

You've made the decision to run for office.

You're excited. You're determined. You're ready. But wait...where do you start?

Two words: Google Contacts.

Google Contacts is one of the best ways to pull the contact information of those closest to you: friends, family, co-workers, associates, etc -- basically anyone you've emailed. For some, Google Contacts is connected to your Gmail which is connected to your smart phone which stores all your contacts (how exciting!). Remember, you'll start fundraising from those in your inner circle and work towards those who are new supporters donating to your campaign.

Chances are if you're asking for money, you're in need of call lists. Your Google Contacts is a good place to start.

Here's a step-by-step process of exporting your Google Contacts into an Excel spreadsheet:

  1. Go to google.com/contacts and log-in.
  2. Once you're logged in, you'll need to make sure you're in the old version of Google Contacts. If you're in the new version, you will not be able to export your contacts.
  3. Once you ensure you have the old version, go to the upper center and hit the "More" button. In that dropdown menu, click "Export".
  4. Once you click that, you will have several options. Click on "Outlook CSV format"
  5. Voila! You have a (hopefully, complete) spreadsheet of prospects and supporters of yours.

Now you have a winning chance and most likely a head start against your opponents.

Time to go fundraise!

Feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions about any of our political fundraising services and trainings.
